Hi, I’m Rebecca.  I’m a professional trainer and consultant, and a psychotherapist specializing in trauma treatment.  Thanks for visiting my site.

I am a licensed clinical social worker in Colorado, an avid yogi and Yoga Registered Instructor, as well as an EMDR Basic Trainer and Consultant.  I have many years of experience treating trauma and training other healers in the areas of trauma informed care, trauma focused treatment, vicarious trauma and EMDR.  My training company is devoted to supporting other clinicians learn integrative methods and techniques to facilitate healing amongst those we serve.  My team and I approach our work with authenticity, integrity, transparency and most importantly compassion.

I started EMDR Basic Training in 2006, and I was hooked.  I have seen no treatment method as powerful as EMDR in producing long term, sustainable, transformative change for people.  Coupled with complimentary modalities and techniques for treating trauma I developed an integrative and interpersonal approach to helping my clients heal.

I graduated from the University of Missouri with my BA in psychology, and completed my MSW at the University of Denver.  I completed my EMDR training in 2007.  I have worked in a variety of settings throughout my professional career: outpatient and inpatient mental health settings, DV shelters, rape crisis center, crisis services, community based work, school based work, private practice, community mental health, academia, and international trauma work. 

I have been facilitating various trainings in relation to the topic of trauma since 2007.  My areas of expertise are on vicarious trauma, trauma-informed care, trauma-focused treatment, and EMDR.  I also provide specialized consultation on these topics and can support other clinicians learn methods to heal trauma as well as care for themselves as healers. To date, I have trained hundreds of clinicians across the country through professional trainings and academia, on topics related to clinical counseling and trauma-focused therapy.

Although training is a deep passion of mine, I can never leave the clinical work where the magic happens.  I am a founding member and previous Director with Heart Centered Counseling, in the Denver region. Today I serve as a consultant to their leadership team and continue to work with clients individually as a member of this caring group.  

I am a deep admirer and devotee of the practice of yoga.  I am a Registered Yoga Instructor and have been practicing yoga for over 20 years.  Yoga has saved my life, literally and metaphorically speaking. It is always a practice I return to and find healing, wisdom, and ways to work through life adversities. My training is in Bhakti Vinyasa flow.  

Yoga is not what you do on the mat, but how you live off your mat. Yoga teaches us how to quiet the mind, soothe the body, and nourish the soul. It teaches the value and importance of loving-kindness, of becoming mindful of your thoughts-words-and actions, how to manage your energies, and many other nuggets of wisdom. There is so much in yoga philosophy that deeply applies to healing our traumas and becoming conscious beings. I started incorporating yoga into my work in a variety of ways years ago. It continues to be the sustenance fueling my own self-care and deeply influences my professional style and technique.

One of my favorite quotes is “No mud, no lotus” from Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.  The wisdom of this quote tells us that without pain and suffering, there can be no powerful transformation of healing and enlightenment.  That from the darkest of places, something beautiful may be born.  In my experience with trauma, I have seen nothing so beautiful as the resiliency of the human spirit, and its ability to persevere and overcome.  This is very much the deep meaning I hold in relation to my work with trauma.  While the experience of trauma healing, as well as the experience of holding space for those immersed in trauma healing, can be messy, scary, and leave us feeling utterly hopeless at times…this wisdom reminds us not to assume the outcome.  That from the muddiest of places, profound beauty may bloom. For without the darkness, we would never see the stars.
