Speaker Series

Welcome to the "Just In Kase" speaker series! This space was created by Rebecca Kase in efforts to build community and share information amongst EMDR therapists. We recognize that you have questions from time to time about specialty populations and issues, but don't always have the time or finances to attend a full training. Sometimes you just need someone to share key bits of information with you so you can keep on groovin' along. Well, we've got you covered!
Every other month, we will bring you a specialty speaker on a topic related to EMDR therapy and your clinical practice. Our speaker series is designed to connect you with experts on clinical issues or business needs that are relevant to your work and practice.
Be sure to sign up for our newsletter to stay in the loop on our upcoming presenters.

January Series

Healing Racial Trauma

Date: January 19th

Time: 12-1:30 PM MTN

Dr. Chinwé and Erica bring a unique multicultural duo to explore the importance of bringing in the body and the social engagement system into healing Race-Based Trauma.  They will explore how to assess and address racialized trauma with EMDR therapy, enhanced by somatic approaches.

“Diversity” trainings that do not incorporate the body are insufficient in addressing racialized trauma since so much of the harm occurs on subconscious, autonomic and physiological levels. This discussion emphasizes the importance of clinicians assessing and unpacking their own implicit bias and privilege and teach how to embody anti-racist work. They incorporate polyvagal theory and ego state work in addressing race-based trauma and explore how to assess for generational trauma within the EMDR protocol. Participants will identify strategies for broaching topics of race (even with white clients) and how to avoid causing racialized harm to BIPOC clients. Participants will be given somatic resources that can help establish client safety across various cross-cultural therapeutic relationships.

Dr. Chinwé and Erica believe a heart-centered and somatic approach to anti-racism is necessary in order to make this work sustainable and impactful.

Polyvagal Theory

Rebecca Kase is an EMDR trainer, consultant, yogi, and Polyvagal Theory, expert. She incorporates polyvagal theory into her work with clients and consultees. Polyvagal Theory is a method for understanding the biology behind symptoms, traits, and states, and offers the therapist helpful insights for developing neuro-informed interventions. This special presentation is for EMDR and non-EMDR therapists and will discuss the basic principles of PVT and highlight some of the ways this theory can be applied in the clinical setting.

EMDR with Eating Disorders

Cassie is a licensed clinical social worker and licensed addiction counselor based in Denver, Colorado. She is a Certified EMDR Therapist and Consultant, and a Director with Heart Centered Counseling. She provides consultation and training services through her business, Paper Crane Counseling and Consultation.

“In almost 10 years of treating disordered eating, I have found that when someone sits down across from me, I have no idea what they are going to tell me they are doing with food. Our first step as clinicians to self-reflect on the role that diet culture, fatphobia, and sizeism have played in our lives as we prepare to support our clients in their relationships with food and their bodies.”  – Cassie Krajewski
In this 1 and a half-hour talk, Cassie provides a basic overview of how to use EMDR and the AIP model as a primary treatment modality for disordered eating and body image issues. This presentation includes a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to learn the function that disordered eating parts can have in regulating the nervous system, using the polyvagal theory as a framework.
